Photographic Prose

A writer in Paris, a photographer in New Orleans, and a worldwide quarantine. This is how art brings us together.

In early March, 2020 photographer Augusta Sagnelli and Samuél Lopez-Barrantes didn’t know each other. A chance encounter in Paris revealed mutual friends in New Orleans and a shared interest in composition and storytelling.

This ongoing series explores the relationship between language, photography, and narrative. In Part I, Samuél wrote a short story and sent it to Augusta, whose unique photographic eye re-imagined the story off the page. In Part II, Augusta took a photo and sent it to Samuél, whose love for storytelling re-imagined her vision on the page.
